Built-up roofing is the tried and true method of using hot asphalt to install various layers of felt onto flat roofs. This is still a good way to waterproof roofs with little to no slope. Not simply "spreading tar," built-up roofing requires a knowledge of how various materials work together and how water can penetrate a roof system.

This is a Frontier Communications substation, housing million-dollar equipment, before we installed final wall flashing and gravel. No amount of wind or rain will be able to make this roof leak.

Wade Amerson is finishing some touch-up work at a roof drain on the City Hall in Gulf Shores, AL. This was a very delicate job involving asbestos removal while the building was in use. This a built-up system manufactured by The Garland Company.
