One of the newer roofing technologies, single-ply membranes offer a clean, odor-free, torch-free alternative to built-up roofing. Installed on roofs with very little slope, these sheets are either mechanically or chemically adhered. The seams are joined together into one continuous membrane using hot air welders.
The newly built Pensacola Country Club presented some interesting challenges. The single-ply roof over the drive-thru area was designed to allow water to flow over the four sides, but it was decided just before we roofed it to add four drains near the corners. In order to provide water flow towards the drains but not over the edges, we had to think on the fly and install an octagonal-shaped tapered insulation system which works quite well.
Below is a picture of the interior of the main dome at the front of the Hadji Shrine Temple on Nine Mile Rd. After Ivan destroyed the existing roof, we installed single-ply TPO membrane over the entire structure, but the dome was the trickiest. With 36 penetrations and little natural light, we are proud to say that the dome is leak-free.
